Promoting Equal Opportunities in Education for All in Pakistan
It has been observed that in Pakistan’s 78 years of existence, education has, and continues to remain a low priority area, and over the years, we have witnessed the damaging impact this has had on our society and its progress, particularly with respect to the religious minority communities.
The enormous challenges endured by these communities have made biased education one of our primary concerns.
In order to promote inclusivity in education across Pakistan; in June 2022 we at The Cecil & Iris Chaudhry Foundation (CICF) launched an initiative “Promoting Equal Opportunities in Education for All in Pakistan”.
The major objective of the advocacy effort on education was to reach out and persuade the federal and provincial government authorities, political parties and education stakeholders to stick with constitutional obligations and safeguards provided for human rights, the international treaties to which Pakistan is committed to and to effectively keep SDG goal 4 (Quality Education) under consideration while devise the new school, curriculum and textbook policies.
In this respect, a Lobby Delegation was formed, comprising of experts on education and civil society members working for the rights of vulnerable and marginalized communities across Pakistan.
The lobby delegates held Provincial and National consultations with the various political parties’ leadership, government representatives and relevant stake holders a charter of demands along with recommendations were provided to them.
“Promoting Equal Opportunities in Education for All in Pakistan” received a phenomenal response and we continue to lobby in order to have our recommendations implemented.
